Pre-Expedition Meetings
Pre-Expedition Meetings (in person or google meet) must be held so that participants can learn what to pack (or bring to pack in backpack) and what expectations of each participant will be. Additionally, most participants will have individual questions that will be unique to their group’s expedition.
Usually, ReCreation Adventures requires two planning meetings with adventure participants.
The first meeting will include discussions regarding the logistics and expedition itinerary (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour).
The second meeting will be instruction on packing gear and backpack for the adventure. Participants will receive a packing list at the first meeting and will bring all items on the packing list to the second meeting. The second meeting is usually held either a few nights before or the night before the adventure begins and will last approximately 30-45 minutes. (This meeting may be at the beginning of the expedition if first meeting was virtual)
The meeting times/dates are adjustable to each individual group's needs.
Pre-Expedition meetings are mandatory for all participants. Failure to attend the pre-expedition meetings constitutes an automatic forfeiture of the participant’s reservation for that specific expedition. The expedition tuition can be transferred one time only to another expedition date; however, if a refund is requested, the registration fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
Preparing for the Adventure
The mountain air is thin. When choosing to go on a wilderness adventure, you will need to prepare yourself by doing the following:
Approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the date of your adventure, start participating in some type of cardio exercise beginning with 20-30 minutes twice a week and building to 60-75 minutes twice a week. This will prepare you for the change in elevation and physical exertion needed.
If you have not done any cardiovascular training before - please consult your physician about your ability to participate in this type of adventure (especially for the more mature adventure seeker!)
If participating in a backpacking expedition, break in your hiking boots! If you don't have a pair of basic hiking boots, you will need to purchase a pair and wear them often prior to the adventure. The first day of hiking SHOULD NOT be the first time you wear your hiking boots. Good hiking boots can be obtained from any sporting goods store at reasonable prices ($40 - $60). ReCreation Adventures does have a limited supply of hiking boots to loan, please indicate your need on the registration form.
